External Resources

While we have diligently sought to find Biblically-informed, helpful resources for you, we make no guarantees regarding the quality of the websites or the ministries themselves.

Dealing with the Emotional Loss of Widowhood

Widowhood is often an immensely lonely experience. Here are some websites we have found that offer Biblically-informed encouragement to widow(er)s. They appear in no particular order.

Dealing with the Practical Realities of Widowhood

Appendix A of our book lists the many tasks you must undertake as a widow(er) to settle your late spouse’s estate and gives you practical advice for completing them. Here is a brief list of resources you may find helpful in addressing the legal and financial matters associated with your spouse’s death. Links are also included for widow(er)s of military veterans.

Legal Help

It is very likely that you will need the services of an estate attorney to settle your late spouse’s estate. The following websites offer assistance finding Christian attorneys in a variety of specialties.

Scriptural Consolation

While the Lord has provided many ministries to console and assist widow(er)s, there is no better consolation and encouragement than His holy Word and prayer. We can’t emphasize enough the importance of reading God’s Word daily, praying “without ceasing,” and allowing God’s Word to continually fill your heart and mind by frequently listening to sermons, Biblically-focused podcasts, and Christian music. Hide God’s Word in your heart (memorize it) so it is readily available to uplift you when you are discouraged. Here are some great places to start:

Psalm 34:17-18 – “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Proverbs 18:10 – “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

Psalm 23:4 – “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

Psalm 68:5 – “A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation.”

Psalm 147:3-5 – “He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. Great is our LORD, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.”
